The ERIC task force received 11 of the 16 campus surveys (thank you to those who responded and did so promptly!). Click here to see the survey form. The survey from After carefully reviewing the surveys received we noted the following:
- 1. The majority of campus libraries use the Web, either a Web page or a database that displays items via the Web, to delive r Web resources and to provide access to their e-journals, e-books, and aggregated databases. Those campuses that indicated they do not use the Web or catalogUSMAI, were MdUSA libraries migrating to ResearchPort.
- 2. Few campuses have a policy of making the entirety of their e-resources available via the Web AND cataloging everything for the catalogUSMAI. Instead, most records are selectively added to catalogUSMAI, after a review and selection process.
- 3. The majority of campuses do not currently have open archival or digital repositories, or digitized objects. This seems to be in the early stages and infrequent among the USMAI libraries. Those that do are using the Web to deliver them. Few are using catalogUSMAI.
- 4. Few campuses have technical reports, patents, or standards. Those that do have selective records in catalogUSMAI and others have them available via the Web.
- 5. Campuses with digital Government documents are using MARCIVE to make them available in the catalogUSMAI. Typically, these are the campuses that are depositories. Otherwise, they are available through an aggregator database and are not in catalogUSMAI.
We are using these data as the foundation for the development of our White Paper for the Council of Library Directors (CLD).
