Experiences with discovery of and access to online resources in the UMD demo of WorldCat Local:
- Encyclopedia of scientific principles, laws, and theories / by Robert E Krebs.
- Not held by UMCP. Held in print and online by UMBC.
- Print version is shown by default; have to click on "View all editions and formats" to find the online version.
- On the print version, which shows UMBC Reference holdings, it says "This item is not currently available for borrowing. Please contact your library for assistance." (9/18/08 - Linda at UMBC)
- On the online version, the "Request Item" button is available and Marlene appeared to successfully place a hold on it on 9/16. (9/16/08 - ERIC at UMCP)
- Making the most of scarcity : accountability for better water management results in the Middle East and North Africa / by Julia Bucknall
- Print held by UMCP and SM. Online held by UMBC (Note: we don't have it via NetLibrary--looks like I used the wrong record for some reason -Linda).
- Print version is shown by default, but it also shows "Internet resources found" in the "Get this Item" section.
- "Google preview" and "Request Item" buttons are shown, but not "Find It" button.
- Online version record shows UMCP and SM stacks holdings in addition to UMBC online holdings. (View Item Online button appears on UMBC campus)
- Other notes:
- Some versions of a title displayed an icon for "e-book" while others said "internet resource." Why? 9/16/08 - ERIC at UMCP)
- We missed having a search history. (9/16/08 - ERIC at UMCP)
- If you click "Request Item" and then "Cancel" when you're offered the catalogusmai login screen, it dumps you back to the main WorldCat Local search screen. (9/18/08 - Linda at UMBC)
- Doesn't seem to be a way to limit to online journals. You can choose "Journals/Magazines/Newspapers" or "Internet Resources" but neither is offered as a subset of the other. (9/29/08 - Linda)
- No "next" button if you want to go to the next record. (9/29/08 - Linda)
- "Availability" chokes when there are many items (e.g. Analytical chemistry, Inorganic chemistry) (9/29/08 - Linda)
- Fighting bribery in public procurement in Asia and the Pacific
- Online held by UMCP.
- User at UMBC sees "Request Item" and "Find It" buttons.
- Annual review of biophysics (9/29/08 - Linda)
- Says "On shelf" for online resource.
- Does not offer "View all editions and formats" even though there are several other records for that title.
- Would be nice if exact title match for your search string showed up before the 3rd page of results.
- On results list, says "Held by: USMAI WC Local" but when you go to the record, it shows UMCP holdings.
- Harvard business review on managing people (10/21/08 - Linda)
- Print and online holdings on one record (e-book). When you click view all editions and formats, there are no more records. Two separate records in catalogusmai. Maybe not a problem, but will users really understand that there are print copies available?
- Advanced topics in database research (10/21/08 - Linda)
- Print serial record comes up on search on "NetLibrary." Actually pretty cool, because a couple of volumes are available via NetLibrary. But it's a little confusing, because it has the e-resource logo at the top, by the description for the print serial. It displays CP's print holdings and then underneath, it says "Additional Info: Vol. 1 | Vol. 3" which is where you click to get to the NetLibrary books.
