Sitesearch Authority Database.
ITD is planning to build USM authority database using Sitesearch
database building software. This database can be used by both our end
users and staff as a reference tool for preferred search terms in VICTOR
database, verification for heading, see reference, see also reference information, & etc.
The authority database can be searched by Word, Word browse, Name, Name
browse, Subject, Subject browse, LC control number, LC control number browse,
and others (per specs).
The authority record can be displayed in both MARC and non-MARC formats.
The LIVE database will be created with 1,026,468 authority records that we have
received from BNA, as of April 20, 1998:
929,986 authority records (name and subjects);
2,105 "delete" records;
96,482 revised records via quarterly notification tapes
Estimated requirement of disc space: 1.75 gigabytes (500 bytes x 3.5 x 1 million records)
Projected date of completion: July 1, 1998
Test database:
1) It has been built with around 4,000 records;
2) It has the following indexes: Word, Name, Subject, LC control number
indexes and browse indexes;
3) It displays records in both MARC and non-MARC formts;
4) Features are yet to be added:

--- database updating features : deduping;
deleting;
replacing

Test database completion: by May 22, 1998
Test database release to USM staff: May 25, 1998
Live database available: July 1, 1998
